The pousada sits on the outskirts of the city overlooking the Douro River. The pousada is a National Museum and beautifully restored. I found the pousada to be one of the most relaxing and in the evening we would take a bottle of Port outside and sit in the covered deck that went out over the river. The food and dining room were up to their high standards and we enjoyed staying here a lot. The only drawback as I remarked before was that it is on the outskirts of the city. You have to hire a taxi every time you want to go exploring. But for peace and relaxation, by far, this is one of the best. The rooms were nice and very clean. The food is prepared to perfection and each evening’s meal was a reflection of the high quality of the pousada’s reputation. Would we stay here again…yes.
